In 2014, Maryland became the 21st state to legalize medical cannabis when Governor O’Malley signed House Bill 881 into law, and also became the 18th state to decriminalize cannabis possession. The Natalie M. LaPrade Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission and the Maryland Department of Health were then tasked with developing regulations for patient registry, i.d. cards, licensing, and all others pertaining to the Maryland Medical Cannabis Program.

Positive Energy first began taking form when Denise and Matt (Ocean City locals and business owners for 30+ years) first heard of the Maryland bill that legalized the use of medical cannabis. They began researching the plant and were astonished with the therapeutic benefits that cannabis had on many medical conditions. The two were especially impassioned with the hope that it could offer a better quality of life for Matt’s father, who has battled Parkinson’s disease for almost 30 years. With Matt unable to devote the time necessary to bring the dispensary to operation, their daughter Lyndsey stepped in to work alongside Denise. During the application phase, they worked meticulously to build a strong, local team and consulted seasoned cannabis professionals in other legalized states. The waiting process was arduous, but all came to fruition on December 9, 2016 when Positive Energy was awarded a license. From that point forward, an enormous amount of effort was put forth by Denise and Lyndsey to bring the dispensary to full operation to best cater to patients.
