How It Works

There are currently 28 qualifying conditions for the New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program. The NMDOH administers the Medical Cannabis Program, in accordance with the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act while at the same time ensuring proper enforcement of any criminal laws for behavior that has been deemed illicit by the state. A Primary Caregiver (PC) may be designated by the Qualified Patient (QP) to take responsibility for managing the well-being of the QP in the use of medical cannabis. Currently, you must be a New Mexico resident and obtain a New Mexico State-issued ID to qualify for the program. Patient and Caregiver ID cards expire every three years. We suggest you send in your application to renew 30-90 days before the expiration date printed on your card. Being a patient in the program allows you to buy up to 230 units (about 8 ounces) of cannabis over three months. Having your patient ID card does not allow you to grow your own medical cannabis. If you want to grow your own medical cannabis, complete the application for a Personal Production License (PPL) and send it to the NMDOH.
