In the fall of 2014, along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in southwest Nova Scotia, a small group of friends gathered together with an idea to make a genuine difference in Canada’s emerging medical cannabis industry. They spoke passionately with one another about producing a higher-quality flower, grown organically and with unwavering reverence for Mother Nature.

That idea germinated, grew and is now flourishing as Aqualitas, Canada’s first Clean Green Certified producer celebrated for their terpene and cannabinoid rich cultivars and impeccable quality control. At the heart of our operation is a holistic growing system powered by the latest in aquaponic science, featuring organic living soil and over 800 koi fish. The result is abundant, healthy plants raised without reliance on pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Today, Aqualitas has expanded to supply both the medical and adult-use markets internationally with a portfolio of in-house brands: Reef Organic, specializing in high-potency and high-sensory cannabis products; Current, a curator and distributor of Canadian craft cannabis; and Sindica, our research arm dedicated to discovering new opportunities in the cannabis health space, guided by science.

We’re particularly proud of how we’ve combined scientific research with our commitment to growing quality cannabis. As a result, our outstanding team of scientists and creative thinkers has made Aqualitas a disruptor in the industry. Our cultivation system design received a Spark Innovation Award, a Clean Tech Energy Award and was featured in the Washington Institute of Environmental Law Journal as leading the world in cannabis cultivation innovation. Grow Opportunity Magazine recognized this innovation and exceptional product quality by naming our Head Grower, Jake Ward as Canada’s Grower of the Year in 2020.
